While Neufeld's away the IGS 9er's will ... work on their Sum of Us

Hello Team,

Just some encouragement to keep picking away at your big Sum of Us project. The LC has been booked on Wednesday, May 18th (one side), Tuesday, May 24th and Thursday, May 26th. I would like you to have at least a rough draft of events up through the American Revolution ready for me to look at by the 18th.

Here's it is, in case you need it:

Canada
The Sum of Us – IGS 9

We have spent most of this semester looking at how Canada ended up being what it is today. We’ve looking at early 1/First Nations societies (especially the Iroquois Confederacy, 2/French Colonization, 3/ British Colonization and then ultimately a war between the 4/French and the British on the Plains of Abraham.
We will also study the 5/American Revolution and how it affected us both in terms of the arrival of the 6/United Empire Loyalists and the idea of representative government. This is not the end of the influences that made us who we are today so …

As well as the above-mentioned influences, take a look at the following moments in history as you try to come up with your version of how we ended up the Sum of Us:

7/ The Magna Carta … essentially a myth that became an argument for governance:
The political myth of Magna Carta and its protection of ancient personal liberties persisted after the Glorious Revolution of 1688 until well into the 19th century. It influenced the early American colonists in the Thirteen Colonies and the formation of the American Constitution in 1789, which became the supreme law of the land in the new republic of the United States.

8/The English Civil War
Round heads and Cavaliers and an unpopular King called Charles

9/The French Revolution
The Declaration of the Rights of Man was a great charter … too bad about the guillotine.

And, the 10/War of 1812
Canada Wins! Wait … were we even Canada?

11/How do all of these moments in Canadian and European history contribute your understand of Canada today?

Finally, what does all of this mean for a 12/Canada that is moving forward? How do we participate in leading our country into a future that includes the scientific certainly of a changing climate (including no snow for the first time) and, on the positive side, the indigenous observational science that has worked sustainably for as many as 13,000 years?

You will be asked to present a Gallery Display to show how each of these (10) moments in history. You will be marked out of 120 marks based on a rubric that will used as the evaluator walks around the displays looking at all of your presentations.

If you would like some extra practise on series vs parallel circuits, WB p. 130-133 (Answer Key in tab above)

Have a great weekend!

Thurs., May 5th

Happy Cinco de Mayo!!

In about a months time, I will be asking each of you to get your teachers to sign off that you are "in good standing" with their course.  This is us giving you permission to attend a field trip to UVic on June 7th.  Please ensure that you work hard over the next month to make sure you can go.

Today:
- quick review of ch 8
- discussion of Physics unit test (predicted to be on Monday, May 16th)
- Notes: How to calculate V, I & R in a series vs parallel circuit
