Unit Test Tomorrow

Today:
Lab group (room 200)
     - Check-in on writing & naming chemical compounds
     - Vitamin C lab (textbook p 101)
     - Formal lab write up (following the scientific method), is due next Monday.
Questions to respond to in your Conclusion:
- Why did you use vit C powder as well as water in this lab?
- Which juice had the most vitamin C?  The least?
- Why is it important to add the juice drop-by-drop?
- How do your results compare with the information on the juice packaging?
- Discuss and explain your results
- List ALL potential errors that could have given your inaccurate results (always list at least 2).
- What evidence is there that a chemical change took place?

Review group (room 302)
     - check-in on writing & naming chemical compounds
     - do chapter 2 quiz corrections (return quiz and corrections to Neuf)
     - review!  Textbook p 112-115 (answers here), workbook (answer key under the assignments tab          above), review package (key here)

SWITCH TOMORROW!!

Mon., Feb. 22, 2016

What we accomplished:
1) Check-in on Compounds with polyatomic ions (submit)
2) Practise until you master it:
     - worksheet in your notes
     - WB pg 48 (answers here)
     - textbook p 91 (answer key on p 509 of textbook)
     - worksheet at front of room (answers here)
3)  Homework: worksheet on writing and naming chemical compounds DUE TOMORROW

Reminders:
- Unit Test Thursday
- Labs (room 200) OR review in room 302

Tuesday, 16 February 2016

Wed., Feb 17th

Reminder: Farm time tomorrow with Kristen and James!  Dress for the weather.

Here is what we worked on today:
1) Check-in from yesterday (who still needs help with metals with multiple ion charges)
2) Practice to Mastery time!
     - textbook practice p 89 & 90 (answer in the back of text)
     - workbook p 47
     - worksheet "Multivalent metals"(answers here)
3) When you have mastered this, start on the homework (which is due on Monday).

Reminders:
- practice work is important!!  Working hard in class will mean less work on your own at home.
- Chemistry Unit test will be next Thursday.  Start your review this weekend.

Homework (due Monday):
- Watch the vodcast on Compounds with Polyatomics (below) and record the info into your notes provided.
- Complete some of the "Polyatomic Ions" worksheet in your notes for practise.

Tuesday, Feb 16th

If you didn't watch the vodcast and write down the notes, you were likely lost at the beginning of today's class.  Do not make the same mistake again ... complete your homework!

Thank you to Kasha for your great presentation on Muscular Dystrophy!

Here is what we worked on today:
1) Check-in: 10 questions to clarify last nights homework
2) Practise to Mastery time (do what you need to do in order to master this material):
     - worksheet in notes "One Common Ion Charge" (Answers here)
     - textbook practice: p. 86 & 87
     - workbook page 46
     - if you need more practice, please just ask

Homework: in which many of you will finish in class today....
- Watch the vodcast (video lesson) below and record into your notes booklet (you already have this).
- Practise by completing some of the worksheet "Multiple Ion Charges" that is in your notes.

Monday, Feb 15th

Congratulations to Bria and Kasha for their 2nd place finish in basketball and good luck at Islands this weekend!

I am soooooo glad to be back.  I have missed you all!

Here is what we completed today:
- Notes on the different types of compounds (slides 1-13 of chapter 3 notes)
- "Forming Ionic Bonds" worksheet that are in the notes booklet
I would recommend completing workbook pages 40 & 43 for practice.

Homework:
Watch the vodcast (video lesson) below and record thin info to your notes booklet that you were given in class (starts at "3.2: Names and Formulas for Ionic Compounds"). Complete some of the "One Common Ion Charge" worksheet (in notes booklet). We will discuss this further in class tomorrow.
